Spring is an ideal time to clean those parts of your home that may not be on top of your priority list during your regular cleaning chores. We brought you 5 cleaning hacks to make spring cleaning easier and save you some time so that you can relax, as well as enjoy the spring blooms and warmer weather instead.
1) Freshen up your carpets and rugs with baking soda.
Baking soda is super absorbent, which makes it great for freshening up your carpets, rugs, sofa or even bed mattress. First, use a vacuum for a general clean, then sprinkle some baking soda on the surface you wish to freshen. Leave it to sit for a few hours to work its magic, and then vacuum again.
2) Steam clean your microwave.
You can clean your microwave with ease and without scrubbing by using a steam cleaning method. Prepare a bowl of hot water with a few tablespoons of vinegar and a chopped-up lemon in it, then place the bowl inside the microwave for 5 minutes. Once the time is up, open the door of the microwave and wipe the inside clean with ease.
3) Use newspapers to clean your windows.
Instead of using paper towels and creating more waste, we recommend recycling newspapers for cleaning your windows. Besides the recycling aspect, the other advantage of using newspaper for cleaning is that it won't leave any streaks on glass surfaces. Just spray your usual cleaner onto the glass, then wipe clean with the newspaper.
4) Disinfect your coffee machine with vinegar.
Our coffee makers can act as hotbeds of bacteria, so it is essential to disinfect them at least once a month. To do so, fill your coffee machine's reservoir with a mix of water and 5 tablespoons of white vinegar and run the machine. Finally, run it once more with only water to get rid of any lingering vinegar smell.
5) Clean the shower head and faucets with vinegar.
Vinegar does not only disinfect surfaces from bacteria but is also efficient in removing unwanted buildup, grime and limescale. To clean your shower head or faucets, fill a sandwich bag with vinegar and merge the shower head or faucet into it till it is fully covered. Let it soak for 2 hours, then rinse the surface with water.
